The Back Story – To Learn More
CONGRATULATIONS YOU BRAVE SOULS!
You’re Amazing for Getting This Far!
I’m calling you brave, because I discovered, over the many years of social media, that absolutely nothing enrages people more than being told they have to love the neighbor they don’t agree with.
So, I honor you for being brave enough to take a step towards love!
From the moment we’re born, till the day we die, we search for love.
Love is a fundamental truth of our existence because from the dawn of time, across every inhabited land, it is the one commonalty. from our ancient ancestors to our future relatives, we all want to be loved and accepted.
So, if nearly everyone that’s ever lived and will live wants to be loved and accepted, then why isn’t it overflowing in abundance?
Why, after 6,000 years of civilization, do we still struggle with loving our neighbor?
1) We look for exceptions.
Since the dawn of man, we have sought exceptions on whom we have to love.
There are 613 commandments in the Hebrew Bible and a significant portion are exceptions to loving others: You don’t have to love the Canaanites, or any of the rival tribes.
We don’t like to talk abouthow to better love your neighbor. It’s much easier to judge.
It’s so much easier to divide into our perspective corners, focusing on the “them.”
And, it’s hard work loving others!
- Like someone who just cut you off.
- Or, a lesser qualified coworker who got the promotion over you.
- Or when you’re ending a relationship.
Being loving during those times is tough!!
Love is a verb. It requires action.
We must do something in order to be loving.
Now, I am asking you to take the steps
That’s why I applauded you for being here. You have done something!
You have taken steps to walk in love!
Kudos!!
FACTS:
Love requires the strength of control.
Let’s break it down:
Fear/hate: a low vibrational energy; easy to maintain and sustain, lazy with little or no effort.
It’s exhaustive when produced.
Low energies (fear/hate) are based more on instinct instead of intent. They reside in our primal nature.
These energies are quick to multiply, signaling everyone around us that there is danger.
It’s the energy that makes us run without thought or examination when we sense trouble.
It’s the same energy/instinct that makes us want to retaliate when threatened.
Or, in the most sublime cases, only realizing that you ate an entire bag of potato chips because the bag is empty.
Low energies invoke actions before thoughts.
Love: a high vibrational field of energy; difficult to maintain and sustain, requires strength and effort.
But it is physically and emotionally rejuvenating when accessed.
Higher energies (love/empathy) require thoughts before action.
It is an override of our instincts and into conscious thinking.
This energy is reassuring; it dissipates confusion and elicits trust.
We see it in the person who is calm during the storm, giving direction to the fearful.
In dire situations, being able to maintain such a high energy automatically elevates someone to the elite status of “hero.”
We see it in the firefighter running into the burning building, or the parent stepping between danger and their child.
And it’s not just about you. Each vibrational action affects the field of energy in all that witness it.
Have doubts?
Think of a heart-warming video that you watched and how you felt as the “hero” saved the day.
Remember the smile, possibly the tear of joy that you shed, and the warm heart that you felt.
Now think of a time when you watched a video about cruelty or injustice and how that made you feel.
Like the latest mass shooting
Were you full of anger, rage, and thoughts of retaliation?
If you’re human, probably.
Because energies are contagious.
Your happiness, as well as the happiness of those around you, depends on the energy you access.
Each moment in life, we choose our energies.
What are you spreading, and what are you catching?
In every story, it is the hero that embodies the higher energies, and the antagonist who perpetuates the lower.
- It takes true strength and courage to maintain restraint, and remain intentional.
- The hero remains calm while everyone else freaks out and runs for the hills.
- Only a few will be strong enough to stand in love when everyone else flees in fear.
Fear and hate are influenced by situations and surroundings.
Love is true strength that stands resolute, regardless of the experience.
It is the difference between being mindless and mindful
Fear is powerless, while love inflicts true and meaningful change.
2) We’re Always Looking for it!
The second reason there is a lack of love in our world: We search for it.
So many of us spend most of our lives looking for someone to complete us. To love us.
Side note: capitalism thrives on it
You’re probably thinking, huh? Searching for love is wrong?
Well, it is when you’re searching for love instead of giving it.
When we focus on receiving love, it will never completely fill us.
We require regular refills.
We need assurances, either through words or actions, that they still love us.
Without these refills, insecurities mount.
You see, when we look for someone else to fill us with love, we forget that we are love.
We forget, that between humans, the only love that will never run dry (or away! LOL), is the love you have and give.
I no longer fear losing something that can never be lost.
When there is no fear of loss, there are no insecurities.
Until learning this, I blamed others for not making me feel loved. I figured they just didn’t truly love me.

Got prayed over at a Pentecostal church yesterday that I would find my role in relation to God and that I would know suicide is not for me – after months of agonizing over which Christian path to take. They might not like this answer but I feel determined to make your path my path. Looking forward to the book! Thank you. (Charleston WV)
Just read your blog post “It’s Not Enough.” Well said. If you have 20 minutes, you might enjoy my sermon “Defining Enough.” There’s a recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s0GoNs8B68. Thanks for your great work, Rev. Pallas! I look forward to meeting you in person at Wild Goose!
